Motor Assemblies

Motor mount and reduction unit

The motor, timing belt speed reduction, motor controller and mounting brackets are all assembled into one compact unit that mounts directly to your existing engine beds. The output shaft is electrically isolated from the drive unit and connects to your existing propeller shaft with a shaft coupling we supply.

The mounting brackets are universally adjustable to accommodate nearly any existing mounting arrangement.

June 24, 2010, we announced three NEW systems, all of which are brushless. The new models replace the 3 models previously offered.  ”Brushless” means no possible source of ignition is present, nor will brushes ever have to be replaced. The new motors come with a splashguard, shown here on the new Quietorque 100ibl. (Above right.)

Below is the 100ibl “under the hood.” which shows the motor controller on the left, the motor on the right and the center section houses the pulleys and belt that allows EY to match the gear reduction to your particular boat.

Motor Controllers

At Electric Yacht we provide fully integrated solutions that make for easy installation and commissioning. The controllers provide over current and thermal protection for reliable “bullet proof” operation.

All 3 Systems are standardized at 48V to stay within the ABYC ”Low Voltage” spec.

Plug and Play Wiring

An important feature of our system is the “plug and play” wiring format. Pre-fabricated interconnect cables link the motor/drive unit with the single-handle Throttle Quadrant and digital Battery Monitor. These are terminated in waterproof plugs for a quick and easy wiring installation. We also provide the master power switch, battery fuse and contactor (solenoid). Hook up cables can be provided by Electric Yacht or by your local marine store once you determine the ideal lengths. All of this makes for a clean and trouble free electrical installation.

Throttle Quadrants

We provide ruggedly build throttle quadrants. Surface mount and pedestal/panel mount versions are available. This is the only control needed to operate the motor. It locks in the neutral position, preventing accidental operation. Simply leave the throttle in neutral with the key switch “on” while sailing, and get free power through regeneration.

Battery Monitor

Electric Yacht has designed an electronic battery monitor to provide you with all the information you need to use the system. It communicates with other components to obtain the information needed to accurately display battery state of charge, voltage, charging or discharging current and time to discharge.
